How Ive Maintained 7 Top Ten Google Rankings For Nine Months
Back in November 2004 I discovered a way to get a top 10 ranking in Google. I tested the technique for 3 months before I shared my findings with the world. Some people worked my technique and are still holding on to their top Google rankings. Others criticized it, and decided not to give it a go. Since November 2004 my targeted keywords have gotten more competitive. Webmasters have gotten swifter and saavier with their techniques. New tactics for gaining top 10 listings have emerged, and are enjoying their place in the spotlight. And here I am still sitting blissfully with the same top 10 Google rankings that I had nine months ago. In fact, I've added several more in July 2005, just to make sure my rankings weren't maintaining because of some seniority algorithm. (Hey, you never know with Google!) Here's what I've discovered in that time frame. While Google still hesitates for weeks (but more often for months) to list new sites in their ranking structure, optimized pages from sites that alaready have a good Google ranking get spidered and listed much faster. How fast? Using this precise theory I got a #1 rank for a targeted keyphrase within 3 days. Sounds exciting. But unfortunately it's not easy to find sites that have great Google rank, and will permit you to freely promote your product, service or web site. Here are two such sites that'll give you an easy in to a possible top Google ranking-- 1) EzineArticles.com EzineArticles.com is one of the best kept secrets for getting top Google rankings. Articles submitted there are often spidered within 1-3 days. A well optimized article can easily land in a top 10 slot. Take for example the keyphrase- "ingrown pubic hair" An article featured at EzineArticles.com holds the #1 position at Google for this targeted keyphrase. How popular is such a keyphrase? Well according to the Overture Search Term Suggestion Tool, 975 searches were done in June 2005 for that very phrase. And in my personal experience, Google almost always yields more searches than Overture. The author of the article is promoting an ingrown hair treatment spray, within the resource box of the article. So he's receiving a boatload of free traffic to his site, because of this particular article. Still not convinced? Here's another... 2) Epage.com Epage.com is a popular classified ad site, with a wide variety of categories. Often times if you optimize an ad for a specific keyphrase the ad will get picked up by Google, and placed in the top 10. For instance, the Overture Search Term Suggestion Tool says that "hammer strength exercise equipment" receives 60 searches per month. A search for hammer strength exercise equipment at Google places an epage.com ad for in the #4 slot. Pretty neat. Now some of you are probably thinking that's a nice trick for keyphrase's that target small niches. But does it work for competitive keyphrases like "fix bad credit" or something along those lines? No... it doesn't. This technique only works with smaller, niche targeted keyphrases. But if you're an online entrepreneur who develops specialty sites, centered around niche topics, this is one technique you can use to bring an ongoing flow of traffic to your site. I run a sinus infection information web site, and for the past 6 months this is the only tactic I've used to generate traffic. In fact, it took me exactly two days to get a #1 position for an ad using my targeted keyphrase. (Today that same ad hovers around #3-#6, depending on the dance Google is doing.) The great thing is I earn AdSense revenue from that particular site almost every single day. The other point you should keep in mind is that this tactic doesn't work with all classified ad web sites. There are literally only a handful classified ad sites that get spidered by Google on a regular basis, AND have ad's consistently showing up in the top 10. So don't go blasting your ad to 50,000 different sites, cause it's not going to work. There's an art to doing it the right way. Either way, it's definitely worth trying the two sites listed in this article. Targeted traffic is always good traffic, no matter how much it is. Twelve Steps to Higher Search Engine Placement Recent studies suggest that more than 80% of new visitors to any web site get there as a result of a search engine query. If this study is to believed, it certainly suggests that working to get high rankings in the search engines might be the most effective thing you can do to bring traffic to your site. LSI and Link Popularity When Paypal's official Web site no longer ranked #1 in Google on a search for "paypal," it was obvious that Google had become more aggressive in penalizing sites with "unnatural" backlink anchor text. Although the high-profile Paypal example has since been rectified, thousands of webmasters are suffering the consequences of not ranking for even their official company name, let alone their top keywords. It is important for search engine optimizers to understand both how anchor text penalties are being applied and how LSI ensures that anchor text variance will not dilute a link popularity building campaign. Sales And Crawlers, Update! Update! Update! The importance to the algorithmic web crawlers that speed throughout the web is crucial to the successful marketing campaign of your site. Googlebot, Wherefore Art Thou Googlebot? As a search engine optimization specialist I often optimize existing web pages for small business clients, upload them to the site and see pages re-indexed by Google within a week. This only happens with existing business sites that have been online for a few years. Google seems to be updating their index as often as every other week at this point and older established sites that are already indexed seem to be re- crawled on that twice a month schedule on a fairly routine basis. Your Top Search Rankings at Yahoo & MSN Search are Worthless It seems I now do this rant every single year when traffic statistics are discussed in web industry news. Last week I posted to my Reality SEO blog that referred traffic numbers are the only statistic that webmasters should be concerned about when looking at their search engine rank. I wrote about this last year after ComScore Media Metrics statistics were relased discussing Search Engine Queries generated by each search property. http://searchengineoptimism.com/Google_refers_70_percent.html Why You Should NOT Submit Your Site On Search Engines Before to answer to this question we have to know what is the difference between a search engine and directory. Here is a brief explanation. The Sandbox Effect What once many people thought they had a penalty, is now being called the Sandbox Effect and is causing new web sites not to rank very well in the search results of Google, not even for the least competitive phrases. Meaning that a filter is being placed on new web sites and cannot rank very high for most words or phrases for a certain amount of time. The SEO Gurus poem Am I alone as I survey that vast wilderness outside, Give the Folks at Google What They Want Recent developments on the Google front have web marketers and SEO specialists talking even more than usual. What they're talking about is the changing Search Engine Optimization landscape. Some of the traditional assumptions about what gets good Google ranking have been challenged by things Google has said over the last few months -- especially by the filing of their most recent patent application. Niche Marketing - Why Keyword Research Come First A good portion of my business involves spending hours and hours using incredibly powerful but difficult to master software to uncover thousands of the exact, targeted keyword phrases people in any given niche market are typing into the search engines. Searching The Internet Without Search Engines The World Wide Web contains more than ten million websites with thousands more being added daily from all over the world, and search engines are tasked with presenting the most relevant pages based on the search criteria entered. Finding a large and popular site like www.irs.gov is easy because it is related to a large agency, but a small site like mine www.consumermortgagereduction.com would be impossible without the use of search engines. The task of finding a website that relates to a specific subject would be almost without the use of the search engine, yet they perform this task with relative ease using tools that may be unknown to most users of search engines. Whats the Big Hurry? Quite often I get asked what the magic solution is for getting better Google ranking. Sometimes the questions sound fairly naive, something like this: High Google Rankings: Frequency vs. Positioning There's an assumption that the higher a ranking or positioning you have with major search engines; the more people will beat a path to your web doorstep. But based on my experience, that's simply not true! There's another factor that is just as important and may actually drive more traffic to your site. |
